About the teacher:

Hello! My name is Shelly Humphrey and I am your child’s teacher! I am honored to be a part of the Heartfelt Impressions family and I am excited to begin this learning adventure with you and your child.

I have 30+ years of experience working with young children and I have done extensive research regarding children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs and how children learn best at school and at home through active, hands-on experiences and PLAY! I spent 4 years teaching K+ and 1st grade for the West Bloomfield School District. Prior to that I spent 6 months at the Flint Campus of the University of Michigan helping to establish a new Reggio-inspired school for children affected by the Flint water crisis. I taught for 5 years as a GSRP teacher for Clarkston Schools where I had the great privilege of presenting my research at Harvard’s Project Zero conferences in Atlanta and Amsterdam. I also had an in-home preschool and a birth-to-schoolage childcare program for 15 years while my own children were young. I am extremely passionate about children and education!

I love to read, write, think, walk, and garden. My husband and I have five amazing sons and 1 beautiful daughter. I also have 3 wonderful grandchildren! As a mother, grandmother, and teacher I share your same hopes, dreams, and expectations for children and their school experiences and I can’t wait to begin this school adventure with you and your child!

What Our Families are Saying

“My son joined the 20-21 Developmental Kindergarten class with Ms. Alexis late in the school year. I was slightly skeptical of the class being the right fit for him, but it didn’t take long to see how amazing the program (and Ms. Alexis) is. Within the first few days, my little boy was learning, having fun, making friends and best of all LOVED going to school each day - he often asked to go on the weekends, too! It didn’t take long for him to develop a strong bond with Ms. Alexis - she took the time to really get to know him and that meant the world to me. In the short time that he was with Ms. Alexis in the DK class, I saw immense growth not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too. Heartfelt Impressions Learning Center’s Developmental Kindergarten class is amazing, and I’m glad we had the opportunity to experience it.” -Kristy (Parker’s Mom)
